Conversations to Savor

Naming Bath Toys
Me: What's the whale's name?
Kiddo: Whale.
Me: And what's the duck's name?
Kiddo: Duck.
Me: And what's the penguin's name?
Kiddo: (pause) Bob!

Pop-Pop
Me: What are you eating?
Kiddo: Pop-pop.
Me: Yeah, a lollipop.  Is it good?
Kiddo: Uh huh!
Me: What do you like about it?
Kiddo: (pulls it out of mouth and inspects it) O kakel (orange circle)
Me: That's right, it is an orange circle.  What else do you like about it?
Kiddo: Go cady. (good candy)

Cold!
Kiddo: (from the kitchen) Cold!
Me: What's cold?
Kiddo: Cold!  (runs to me with a stick of butter I had just taken out of the freezer)
Me: Yes, it's cold.  I'm letting it get warm now.
Kiddo: (reading it)  Baba.
Me:  Yes!  Butter.  That was good reading!
Kiddo: Eat?
Me: No, we don't eat butter, we use it for cooking.
Kiddo: Dada!
Me: Yes, I know Daddy does a lot of the cooking, but Mommy is going to use it.  We're going to make some cookies.  You wanna help Mommy make cookies later?
Kiddo: Uh huh!  Cookie!

He loved rolling out the dough and using the cookie cutters. :)
So proud of this little guy and how far he has come in expressing himself.  This time last year, his only words were "ow" and "uh" for up.

God is so good. :)

Kiddo Reading

Yep, he reads!  Beyond all the words he reads from his flashcards (which you'll see in the video below), I've shown him other words to see if he can read them.  Words like "the", "where", "is" and "an."  Words like "birthday" and "bedroom."  Sentences like "Angry Birds is fun."  He can read them!  Blows me away sometimes, the words he'll read, and I think he can read more than he can express to us verbally, so I don't know how much he can actually read.

This reading thing is a HUGE blessing.  Kiddo has ALL of the symptoms of dyspraxia/apraxia except for "difficulty reading."  And so I like encouraging him in this area, use it to enhance his speech, build his confidence, and help him grow in an area he hopefully will always be successful.

And so, without any further ado, I present to you: Kiddo Reading.

Family Trips

Sorry folks, it's been a while since I posted anything.  We went out of town twice in October and it's taken me a while to get back into the swing of things.

Our first trip was to Michigan to visit my relatives and attend my cousin's wedding.  My grandparents are the only ones who have met Kiddo, so it was great for all of my relatives to meet both the kids.  Kiddo got to play with my other cousin's son, who is two months younger than Kiddo.  So glad they could finally meet and play together, they had a lot of fun chasing each other around the golf course after the wedding, and dancing at the reception.  We were able to visit with both my mom's and dad's side of the family, which was wonderful.

A week in a half after we returned from that trip, we went to visit my in-laws at Myrtle Beach.  So much fun!  The kids got to see their cousin, who is just a few months younger than Kiddo and I honestly believe his absolute best friend.  My sis-in-law took some awesome pics--love them!  Though it was colder than we were expecting, we had a blast.  It was so good to see family and have fun at the beach. :)
