Bath Time Victories
The kiddo used to not a big fan of water due to some sensory processing issues. He'd cower when it rained, and scream when I wet and rinsed his hair with a washcloth. But now, he lets me wash and rinse his hair without a complaint. If some water gets into his eyes he'll point to it and I get the towel and wipe his eyes. Easy peasy. Yesterday at bath time he even put the washcloth on top of his own head, water dripping down the sides of his face, and he just grinned.
But, and here's the amazing thing, yesterday the kiddo said two amazing things while he was in the bath.

All the Colors of the Rainbow
The kiddo loves his colors! He goes around signing the colors of things he notices. And he notices a lot. So I was beyond excited when he started SAYING the colors rather than just signing them. In this video you'll see him sign each color, as signing is just so much easier for him than talking, but with a little encouragement you'll hear him say each color of the rainbow. The words may not sound perfect, but it's incredible progress and I'm so excited to start hearing his little voice. :)
This is huge folks! The kiddo wasn't even babbling last year. In five months he's gone from making sounds, to imitating our sounds, to being able to put the sounds into some semblance of words. I can only imagine what this kiddo will be doing in another five months!

Sounds into Words!
Words, glorious words! We're hearing them!
Our awesome speech therapist encouraged us to help him combine the sounds he is able to say easily. He is only saying two consonant sounds consistently-w and m- and occasionally b, as well as several vowel sounds. This means, that with his list of vowel sounds he can say he has successful made the following words:
-ow (not only for when you're hurt, but apparently it's also the sound toy cars make when they crash)
-uh (for up)
-wawa (for water)
-wa (for want)
-baba (for bye bye)
-mama (my all time favorite word so far!)
At first he was only saying these words when we asked him to. But now, he is spontaneously using these words. He has realized that he can communicate with his voice and it is a beautiful thing to see and hear. Keep up the good work, Kiddo!
