All the Colors of the Rainbow

The kiddo loves his colors!  He goes around signing the colors of things he notices.  And he notices a lot.  So I was beyond excited when he started SAYING the colors rather than just signing them.  In this video you'll see him sign each color, as signing is just so much easier for him than talking, but with a little encouragement you'll hear him say each color of the rainbow. The words may not sound perfect, but it's incredible progress and I'm so excited to start hearing his little voice.  :)

This is huge folks!  The kiddo wasn't even babbling last year.  In five months he's gone from making sounds, to imitating our sounds, to being able to put the sounds into some semblance of words.  I can only imagine what this kiddo will be doing in another five months!

Animal Sounds!

I keep trying to get a video of the kiddo showing off his new words, but he's rather uncooperative when he sees the camera.  But he LOVES making the animal sounds, and he had no problem with me capturing this.  There's a few animals I forgot while recording this, such as the horse and chicken but I hope you enjoy! :)

1st Annual Apraxia Awareness Day

May 14th marks the first annual Apraxia Awareness Day.  I am so excited that there has been set aside a day to spread awareness about this little known disorder.  Here are a few facts about apraxia, taken from apraxiadventures.com:

Happy Mother's Day!

Image from scrapbooking.about.com

To all mama bears:  Happy Mother's Day!

To all mama bears who have cubs struggling to find their voice, this is for you.  I found this posted here:

To the mothers who haven’t yet heard “I love you,”
To the mothers who do not yet have a name,
To the mothers who know what it is to believe in your child when it seems like no one else does,
To the mothers who are interpreters,
To the mothers who are their child’s voice,
To the mothers who have had to become the expert,
To the mothers who do not take no for an answer,
To the mothers who stay awake at night worrying about what is to come,
To the mothers who never let their child see them cry for them,
It gets better.

Happy Mother's Day!

Progress Report

The last week or so we've seen some progress that I want to report.  I hope to write a progress report every month or two just to keep everyone up to date and also so I can go back and marvel at how much progress he has made. So, without any further ado, here's the latest updates:
